• Composite Fillings

  Our office is entirely mercury-free, and we do not use metal fillings. Instead, we apply composite fillings made of thin, durable, tooth-colored resin to fill in teeth that have been injured or that have cavities. Composite fillings are virtually undetectable and make teeth more durable and stronger. Composite fillings are not only used for restoring decay, but are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth.

• Root Canals

  A root canal is a minimally invasive dental surgery to treat a tooth infection. When a tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp. If left without treatment, a “pus-pocket” called an abscess may form. An abscess may cause the pulp tissue to die. Pain and swelling can result when the infected pulp is not removed. Without treatment, your tooth may have to be removed. Dr. David Peck can usually complete your root canal and CEREC restoration in one visit. We will remove the diseased pulp; then the pulp chamber and root canal(s) of the tooth are cleaned and sealed. We use state-of-the-art technology, which allows us to complete the root canal in one visit. After the tooth has been sealed, we will then place a crown on the tooth to strengthen the remaining structure. Then, as long as you continue to care for your teeth and gums with regular brushing, flossing, and checkups, your restored tooth can last a lifetime. Most of the time, a root canal is a relatively simple procedure with little or no discomfort. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile!

• Pain-Free Dental Treatment

• Laser Dentistry

  In the past, placement of a porcelain crown, inlay, or onlay required at least two dental visits. • Root Planning

  Scaling and root planing are the first stages of treatment for mild to moderate periodontitis. Three things are accomplished with these procedures: - Removing tartar and infection from the periodontal pockets - Smoothing the surface of the tooth root to give bacteria less space to grow - Help the gums adhere to the tooth root so that bacteria and food debris will be kept out Root planing involves removing a very small portion of the hard outer coating of the tooth root to make the surface smooth. This procedure is usually done with a numbing agent or a local anesthetic to keep discomfort to a minimum. Many patients choose to have one quadrant of their mouth done at a time to prevent their whole mouth from being too sore afterward. An antibiotic may be used in the infected pockets. Some patients may need an oral antibiotic after root planing to get rid of any lingering bacterial infection.

• Soft Tissue Laser Treatment

  Soft Tissue laser therapy in Springfield, MA is a non-surgical treatment for periodontal disease. This process is less invasive than conventional surgical methods. • Periodontal Maintenance Care Visits

  Gum disease can be prevented with good preventive care for most people. Gum disease can be avoided by taking the same steps you do to avoid cavities: brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice daily, floss every day, maintain a healthy diet, avoid tobacco use, and have your teeth professionally cleaned on a regularly. Dr. Peck may recommend twice-yearly, or more frequent , checkups depending on your oral health. Even with good home care, plaque can build up and harden into a tough substance called tartar. • Partial Dentures

  When patients lose some of their teeth, the most ideal thing to do is to replace the missing teeth in order to maintain the functionality and structure of the mouth. In Springfield, Massachusetts, Dr. David Peck recommends the use of partial dentures to his patients when they have several teeth missing, either on the upper maxillary or lower mandibular arches of the oral cavity.   Dentures have been around since the 7th century BC when the Etruscans in northern Italy made partial dentures out of human or animal teeth fastened together with gold bands. The Romans expanded on the practice. Wooden full dentures were invented in Japan in the early 16th century. Probably the most famous denture wearer was George Washington, whose famous chompers were made with ivory from hippos and elephants, gold rivets, spiral springs, and real human teeth. Surprisingly, one quarter of the U.S. population over 65 years of age have lost most or all of their natural teeth. Many of those people, unfortunately, have learned to live without teeth, with the corresponding damage to their ability to eat certain foods, to speak clearly, and to their social life and overall self-esteem. But it doesn’t have to be that way — dentures, whether full or partial, can give you back a beautiful, functional smile. Partial or full: If you have at least one remaining tooth in the upper and lower jaw, partial dentures will probably be your best option. Partial dentures can be removable or permanent, depending on the number of remaining teeth. Full dentures replace all of your teeth. Any remaining badly damaged or decayed teeth are removed and then various impressions are taken to use when constructing the dentures, which can take about two months. Full dentures are held in place through pressure provided by the tongue and cheeks, and suction. Adhesive can be used to add stability. That’s why it’s important to have your dentures constructed and fit very precisely. Implants + dentures: Denture technology is moving toward using dental implants to anchor dentures. Implants are titanium posts that are inserted into the former tooth sockets. The jawbone is allowed to grow back around the implants, making them similar to natural tooth roots. The dentures attach to those implants, which are placed at various necessary support positions in the upper and lower jaw. Implant-supported dentures have several advantages: - Dentures don’t move, rub, and cause irritation because they are anchored in place by the implants. - The dentures don’t slip when speaking, biting, or chewing. - Food doesn’t work its way under the dentures when you eat - The risk for bone loss is reduced, as implants maintain the normal downward pressure that stimulates the jawbone. - Lower jaw dentures are more stable compared to traditional prosthetics.

• Dental Implants

  There are many different causes of tooth loss – decay, gum disease, trauma, and congenital anomalies. Although there are a variety of options to fill gaps left by missing teeth, dental implants, also known as tooth implants, are an excellent alternative for those with strong gums, sufficient bones, and otherwise healthy mouths. During the three-stage dental implants procedure, a specialist extracts any diseased or injured teeth; next, he carefully inserts titanium dental implant posts into jaw, leaving them to fuse to the bone for several months. The patient is then fitted with temporary artificial teeth to hide gaps during the wait period. In the second stage of tooth implants, the specialist screws an abutment – to which a permanent crown will be attached in the third stage–into the dental implants post. After the crown is attached, the dental implants procedure is complete.

• Sinus Surgery

  Sinus surgery, or specifically, a sinus lift or sinus augmentation, is one of the procedures being conducted by Dr. David Peck and his associates in his facility in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is specifically done on the oral cavity with the objective of adding more bone onto the maxilla, or the upper jaw, to be able to support a dental implant. Grafting more bone onto the existing maxillary bone area will give the dental surgeon more space to replace the patient’s missing teeth. Bone grafts may be taken from other sources or from the patient himself. Although synthetic materials have also been used in such procedures. A sinus surgery like this will take up to six months to heal and successfully support a dental implant, so most dentists prefer to perform the sinus surgery simultaneously with the implant surgery to avoid the necessity of having the patient go through two separate procedures.

  Bone regeneration has become a valuable part of dental surgery because not all patients have sufficient bone mass to support a restoration such as dental implants. • Bonding

  Composite bonding is an excellent method for correcting broken, misshapen, stained, or otherwise unsightly teeth. Composite tooth bonding is usually a one-visit procedure. The tooth is prepared by lightly roughening the area to be repaired, which usually doesn’t require anesthetic. Then the surface of the tooth is etched with a gel, and a treatment of bonding primers and resins are applied to the tooth. Then the bonding composite is applied. Dental bonding composites are materials made of acrylic resins with inorganic fillers, and containing photoinitiators. They are made to a paste-like consistency so that they can be sculpted to the proper shape. They contain various pigments which are matched to your tooth color, and they come in varying degrees of translucency, with careful attention paid to their polishability. This bonding composite is applied to your tooth, sometimes in several layers in order to duplicate the depth of color that occurs in a natural tooth. A high-intensity light is then used to harden it. With careful artistry, this bonding composite can be manipulated to mimic the color details and translucency of your tooth, and polished to a beautiful shine.

  Smilepix is a digital imaging service that allows you to see what your teeth would look like if you were to undergo a cosmetic dentistry procedure. First, we will take a photograph of your teeth. Then that digital image will be sent via email to Smilepix for digital enhancement. The Smilepix artist will alter the photograph so that it displays an example of how your teeth could look should you opt for a particular cosmetic dentistry procedure. Then, you can compare your before and after pictures and decide if the cosmetic dentistry procedure will help you get the results you want.

• Relaxation Sedation Dentistry

  Many people get anxious when they visit the dentist. They possibly associate the dentist with a childhood trauma or a previous painful dental treatment. It is for this reason that Dr. David Peck uses relaxation as one of the means of sedating his patients in Springfield, Massachusetts in order to minimize their discomfort and perform procedures without pain or other physical difficulties. Patients who benefit the most from relaxation as a means of sedation are those that experience dental anxiety during dental procedures.
